In 1966, the Vans Doren Rubber Company opened its doors in Anaheim, California. Not long after than, Vans' simple canvas shoes became the trademark footwear on the beaches of Orange County. Soon, the first skate-specific shoe, the Era, came out. Within only a few years, Vans' signature stripes and non-slip waffle sole were seen on the Old Skool and the Sk8-Hi models and then came to represent the "SoCal" (Southern California) look which continues to be the signature style of today's surf and skate community. More than 40 years later, Vans is still dedicated to the production of durable footwear. The standard beach model has become the basis for an extensive collection of Vans Classics.
